What are ecosystem services?


Ecosystem services are defined as the direct and indirect contributions of ecosystems to the economy and well-being of humanity, and can be initially classified into four categories:

PROVISION | food, water, raw materials such as wood and fiber, biofuels, genetic resources, medicinal or ornamental, among others

REGULATION | climate, pollination, biological control of pests and diseases, water purification, among others

SUPPORT | maintenance of migratory spices life cycles and biological diversity

CULTURAL | recreation, tourism, cultural inspiration, among others
